A tournament platform, not just a team website

The Calgary Elite Volleyball Association needed more than a brochure. We built a database-backed platform that runs tournaments and still looks like a program you want to join.

The client

CEVA is the Calgary Elite Volleyball Association, a competitive volleyball organization running multi-team tournaments. This is our proof that VDT goes past brochure sites: when a client needs real software, we build real software.

What they needed

Tournaments generate structure: divisions, pools, teams, games, standings, news, photos. All of it changes in real time on event weekends, and none of it can depend on a developer being on call. The association needed a hub its own admins could drive.

What we built

We designed the data first and the pages second, which is the difference between a site and a platform.

A real tournament database

Tournaments, divisions, pools, teams, games, news and photo galleries all live in a proper database with an admin interface over top. Nothing is hard-coded.

One featured tournament, always

Admins pick which tournament leads the homepage, and the site enforces that exactly one is featured at a time. Small rule, no broken homepage ever.

Admin dashboards

Create and edit tournaments, manage the calendar and control the public site from a protected dashboard built for volunteers, not developers.

Built ahead for live scores

The schema already models games and results, so live public scoreboards and standings are a phase two, not a rebuild.

Design notes

Crest-led and proud of it. The site opens with the CEVA crest dropping into place, the hero tilts subtly with your mouse, and the crimson-and-white palette carries through every page. Athletics branding works when it feels earned rather than decorated.

An association hub that its own people operate, with the structure already in place for live scoreboards. Brochure sites tell people about the program. This one runs it.
